V2C Opens Refurbished Sheltered Housing Unit

Posted On:2008-04-21

V2C recently celebrated the official opening of its Ger-y-Nant scheme, situated in Bridgend town centre. Councillor Ralph Hughes, Cabinet Member - Community, Bridgend County Borough Council performed the opening and each resident received a personalised Easter egg as a gift to commemorate the opening.

Ger y Nant was one of Valleys to Coast's smaller sheltered housing schemes which was originally built as small bedsits with shared bathing and toilet facilities. Over time, this form of accommodation became more unpopular as peoples' expectations changed and vacancies were difficult to fill.

V2C resolved to retain the building for use for older persons and works were recently completed after a feasibility study was commissioned to look at extending the original building and converting the flats into larger independent accommodation.

V2C also worked with the Royal National Institute for the Blind to make the accommodation and communal areas suitable for those with a visual impairment.

Guests were invited to the opening and given a tour of the complex with an opportunity to meet and have refreshments with residents.
