Oakwood Spring Clean 26th March 2008
Posted On:2008-04-10
Congratulations to Oakwood's Acorn Community Association for holding a Spring Clean last month. The aim of the event was to promote responsible refuse disposal, focusing the clean up on the river bank at the south end of the estate.
Acorn Community Association, Valleys to Coast, Keep Wales Tidy, The Environment Agency, Probation, and BCBC were all involved, providing funding and expertise to the event. It was a great success, with over 40 volunteers, including residents and children from the estate. Volunteers and staff cleared a large section of the bank and carried out a litter pick around the estate, filling three 6-yard skips and the caretakers lorry.
The children were spurred on by the Easter bunny, and had Easter eggs and face painting as a reward for their efforts. Many are keen to be involved with more events like this, and have committed to keeping Oakwood clean.
The event also generated renewed interest in the activities provided by Acorn Community Association at the community house, and more activities are planned to start soon.
