Marlas fun day July 2008

Posted on: 30 July 2008

We originally organised the event to mark the official opening of the Multi Use Games Area on Gibbons Way which was officially opened by both the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the County, but took on more significance in helping to launch Communities First and TRAM (Tenants and Residents Association Marlas) in the area.

Bridgend Mayor Cleone Westwood, Deputy Mayor Jeff Tildesley with the Cougars who played an exhibition match on the day.

The Fun day had a wide list of stall holders and participants including: Cornelly Jazz Band, BCTV, the Cougars Basket Ball Team, Luncheon Club, Afon y Felin School, Communities First, the Police, Youth Works, The Women’s institute, Kenfig Community Boys and Girls Club, Keep Wales Tidy Pyle Rugby Club, Working Links, Connaught, TRAM, BAVO, Hafod Housing Association, On Track and CADT.

A Marlas resident said “its been a great day, we haven’t had anything like this for years “

Due to the success of the day, residents are now hoping that the fun day is the first of many on Marlas and are keen to organise a fundraising group to ensure that it is an annual occurrence.
